 Have you considered  caring
for a foreign child  in your home?

Are you longing to do something to make a difference in the lives of people who are needy?

children in Burmese camp in Thailand. http://www.karenkonnection.org/

Perhaps you are just the right family  provide foster care for refugee children from Burma.
Burma (also called Myanmar) has been overrun by a  military dictatorship that rules with an iron fist.

Soldiers often kidnap children and force them to carry their weapons, walking 9 miles a day without food.  Cooperation with the Burmese militia is mandatory.  You can read more about this at         http://www.unrefugees.org/usaforunhcr/uploadedfiles/ThailandBurmeseFeb07.pdf

The requirements for international foster care are mostly the same as the requirements for foster care of children within our own country.  To qualify you must:
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Be in good physical health
  • Be willing to submit the necessary criminal and child abuse clearances, including fingerprinting
  • Be willing to provide required documentation
  • Be willing to participate in a home study interview with staff from Lutheran Family Children Services of Pennsylvania (LCFS)
  • Be willing to provide a safe home environment
  • Be highly motivated to care for children in need
  • Be willing to work in partnership with LCFS to plan for the child's future
  • Be willing to attend required training
Most of the children (Unaccompanied Refugee Minors) who are presently coming from Burma range in age from  14 to 17.

Are you interested?  Hope Flinchbaugh will be available to speak to your church or school at no cost to briefly present this opportunity and to answer any questions you may have.   (Hope and her family are personally taking in two Burmese daughters ages 15 and 17.)
